The Coalfields Training and Enterprise Hub is a flexible working space in Kincardine, a small seaport town in Fife. The Hub brings together lone workers to combat social isolation and to encourage social entrepreneurship. It is part community centre, part innovation lab, part business incubator. The building contains office and meeting space for local community and voluntary organisations along with flexible rented pod rooms. It gives access to skills and employability support programmes, helps develop community driven social enterprise projects, gives unemployment support, offers business support services and provides training workshops.
The hub supports place based regeneration in the West Fife area through its employability agenda. It is a space for voluntary, community organisations and social enterprises to collaborate, share resources, attend events and innovate.
One of the primary areas of service delivery from the Hub has been its skills and training programmes. As an SQA Accredited centre, it offers a wide variety of vocational and non-vocational accredited training, and various employability focussed training courses. To date, 322 community members have received accredited training that has since helped many of them gain access to employment, volunteering and educational opportunities.
The Coalfields Training and Enterprise Hub involves CRT Scotland adopting a wider approach through an initiative that has been used to deliver an intensive programme of regeneration in partnership with a number of agencies. We have delivered a wide variety of programmes since we opened and have developed as a direct service provider within former coalfield communities, acting as a vehicle for securing sustainable income and funding.
Gary Porter, Development Manager - The Coalfields Training & Enterprise Hub
The Hub is delivered and run by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT). The organisation is dedicated to regenerating former mining towns in industrial areas across Great Britain. It is primarily funded by the Scottish Government.
